Toca Boca has just launched a new app! Toca Life: After School takes place where the kiddos explore their hobbies after school from skateboarding, creating art, dancing, sports and more! Using the same familiar free game play as other Toca Boca games, kids are given free reign to go anywhere inside this world with a cast of 27 characters. Chloe already has her favorite character who's she's named Kate. Here Kate's taking some time to perfect her graffiti art on the wall. Kids can mix beats on the dance floor. There's really no end to the surprises and things they can do in this app. I love the entire adorable look of this game. For the sporty kids, there are lots of different sports they can play from basketball, football, soccer, hockey and more! There's even an art room where kids can create their own art and frame it. Here's Kate working on her masterpiece. I always have peace of mind with Toca Boca games because there are no in app purchases. I also always feel like Chloe is being really creative while having fun. The characters and actions in the game are very well thought out to keep kids laughing and exploring their own imagination! Toca Life: School joins the Toca Life series in which kids experiment, explore, and make up stories with characters and items, just as they would with a dollhouse. A recently added feature allows kids to record their voices as they move things around on the screen and save their stories to the device; for this, they'll need access to the microphone and the camera roll. There's an icon on the home screen that features weekly videos and silly facts about the Toca Life characters. In their device's settings menu, parents can turn off the music or hide the Weekly News and Toca news icons. In the bathroom area are farting and flushing noises and cat poop in a litter box. One scene has a goblin head that might be scary to some kids.
Toca Life: After School offers five settings for free and imaginative play. Kids can visit a house, the school building, a playground, the cafeteria, or the youth club. Each of these places has places to explore; for example, the school building has a classroom, a hallway with lockers, and a bathroom. There are objects and props everywhere for kids to pick up and move around. Add, remove, and "interact" with 32 characters: Make them sleep, eat, play in a band, and so on, though they're more like paper dolls and don't perform many actions. The recording feature allows kids to make and narrate short movies as they interact with the features. There's certainly a lot to do, discover, explore, and imagine with this virtual school-themed dollhouse, but there are limitations and a few potentially eyebrow-raising elements. Kids are in control, it's easy to use, and some elements are really thoughtfully designed: The diverse range of characters lets kids pick from a wide variety of people, creatures, and animals, and props include wheelchairs. Though the recording feature is a nice addition, as it encourages kids to organize their play around a story, the weekly updates are not as impressive. At the time of this review, they were weirdly silly (for example, talking about how much a sloth "chills") in ways that won't always make sense to young kids. The chemistry class will likely be fun but also might be something the target age group won't relate to. There are also elements that some parents of the preschool set might not love: Some of the characters wear punk-style studded jewelry, there's graffiti in the youth club, and there are some mildly creepy elements such as a strange goblin head. The question remains whether the digital setting really is the best way for kids to engage in pretend play. Though there's an abundance of material here, which gives kids a wide set of possibilities, kids are still limited to what the game designers have programmed.

Toca Life: School is a terrific addition to this game series. The music and animations are bubbly and entertaining. Exploring the different buildings on the campus is truly enjoyable and all interactions and activities are a lot of fun. If your kids enjoy the other games in this series, then they are sure to like this one as well.
Create your own stories using available characters and interactive objects available in each scene. For example: test different skateboards or scooters in the skate park, create and print 'pieces of art' in the art workshop or play a basketball game at the sports court. After you finish your fun activities you can give your characters a snack in the cafeteria or put them to beds in the dormitory. Good variety of scenes with tons of interactive objects (our favorite was paint-and-print machine in the art workshop). The option to record your story and turn it into a mini-video. Good variety of fun characters to play with. Humor and fun factor. Ease of use. No ads or other distracting features. Overall quality of the app. Explore five colorful locations and play with 32 lively characters. There are after school activities in the Youth Club like ping-pong and hidden treasures to find such as a chest full of costumes. With so much to see and do in Toca Life: School, your kids will love it. Here are just some of the other activities included: Check out the chemistry lab for experiments. Play sports or cheer during a game. Have a food fight and clean up after. Throw stink bombs and set off the sprinklers. As with the other games in this series, Toca Life: Town and Toca Life: City, this new addition lets you record and share your own story, which brings out that creativity. There are also no time limits, scoring, advertisements, or in-app purchases. Kids can visit a house, the school building, a playground, the cafeteria, or the youth club.
